About Our Doctors

Dr. Kenneth Kalthoff, DVM

Dr. Kalthoff graduated with honors, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Science in 1984 from the University of Idaho. He then attended Washington State University where he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. While attending Washington State University, Dr. Kalthoff participated in an advanced training program in emergency medicine and critical care.

Upon graduation, Dr. Kalthoff continued to work in the field of emergency medicine and critical care, first in Longview Washington, and then when he moved to Southern California. He managed an emergency clinic in Orange County for five years and then worked for four years at an advanced veterinary diagnostic and treatment facility in Fountain Valley. He and Dr. Porte became partners in business in 1994 when they purchased Tri-City Veterinary Clinic.

Dr. Kalthoff met his wife Angela while working in Longview, Washington. They have two children. They share their home with two dogs, a cat and a parrot. The Kalthoffs enjoy skiing, golfing, and other outdoor sports. Along with the Portes, they enjoy cooking and wine tasting.

Dr. Kenneth Porte, DVM

After Graduating with honors from the University of California at Davis, Dr. Porte earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University in 1987 (yes, he and Dr. Kalthoff were roommates in college). He earned the Upjohn award for excellence in Small Animal Clinical Medicine and Surgery later that year.

To further his expertise, Dr. Porte completed an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at MSU. This internship included special emphasis on Internal Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology as well as Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Porte moved to Southern California in 1992 where he practiced in El Cajon for 2 years before joining Dr. Kalthoff in their partnership at Tri City Veterinary Clinic in 1994.

During his internship at MSU, Dr. Porte met and married his wife, Lorrie who is also a veterinarian. The couple have two boys. They share their home with a Golden Retriever, a Jack Russell Terrier, a Dachshund and two cats. The Portes enjoy sailing and other outdoor activities as well as movies and wine tasting.
